Anyway, I think the way to unbock the update function as to be find in the user and admin rights settings. It seems that Firefox requires full or "total" administrator rights to be fully managed. Finally I logged in the admin account ( that I discover displaying all teh available account on reboot ), open Firefox and then I was able to update automaticaly, the update is made for all the users account to. Until that I was thinking that my User account as all administrator rights because I was able to install, uninstall and tweak everything without any problem. And if I try to "violently" update by placing the last version of firefox in the application folder it tells that I have not all the rights to do it. I had the same problem of grayed "search for update", and firefox were still on 1.0.3. On June 30th, these macOS users will automatically be moved to the ESR channel through application update. I just bought an Ibook G4 the previous week. I want that DMG thing off my desktop and I want the grayed out "Check for Updates" to be available. But when I try to get rid of the DMG thing on my desktop, it doesn't give me a trash can, just an eject button, and it won't let me eject it because the app is in use, it says. I opened the app from Applications told dock to keep the icon there. I opened a second Finder window and dragged the Firefox icon (is that what you are talking about?) from the first totally filled Finder window into "applications" in the second Finder window I just opened. From the "download" window I clicked on "open." When I do that, it hogs the Finder window (takes the whole thing, showing nothing else, not the usual Finder display) and puts that dmg thing on my desktop. I'm tempted to get rid of every vestige of Firefox on my iMac and either do without it or start entirely over. And yes, I think I *am* probably running it from that each time I use it.
